Laughter is the Best Medicine

The Health Benefits of Laughing

Want to boost your immune system, improve your mood, and reduce the stress in your life? Then start laughing! That’s right- having a good, hearty chuckle can have positive effects on the body and improve your mental and physical well-being.

As adults, we tend to take life too seriously and forget the importance of laughter. Even the supervillain Joker from the movie The Dark Knight once said, “Why so serious?” and I couldn’t agree more. So turn that frown upside down and discover why laughing is key to a healthy body and mind.

1. LAUGH TO IMPROVE YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM.

When you laugh, it can lessen the amount of stress hormones in your body causing a boost to your immune system. Add some daily cackles into your routine for sickness prevention.

2. LAUGH TO ALLEVATE PAIN.

Laughing can release an array of endorphins which are also known as the “happy hormones”. These endorphins can help to relieve pain in the body as well as help lower your blood pressure. Pain is more tolerable when you add some giggling into the mix.

3. LAUGH TO RELAX.

When you don’t have time to do yoga or meditate then make the time to laugh! Laughing can relieve stress and tension, relaxing the body for almost an hour. So grab some popcorn, your favorite comedy and let your body do the rest; literally and figuratively.

4. LAUGH YOUR WAY TO NICE ABS

Okay, so you won’t get a six-pack overnight but laughing can cause the muscles in your tummy to tighten and expand just as if you were at the gym doing crunches. Laugh away!

5. LAUGH FOR YOUR HEART.

Laughter can assist with cardiovascular issues by increasing blood flow which the heart loves. The more you laugh the more health benefits you reap. Make smiling part of your daily routine, joke with friends, laugh at your mistakes and be silly! Laughter really is the best medicine.
